Retained search is a little more expensive than contingency recruitment; however the benefits outweigh the small cost increase. The client will pay a third of the proposed fee in advance to retain our services. The advantage to us is our client is using us exclusively. Therefore, we have firm commitment from our client, enabling us to comfortably conduct a thorough search for the best possible candidates. With contingent search, clients usually want to work with two or three agencies which means there is a race against the clock, making it difficult to conduct a thorough, high-quality search. During a contingent search, agencies tend to obtain as many CV's from their database in as short a time as possible, which greatly reduces the quality of service and quality of candidates you receive.
